Paintings of English scenes
Gertrude Jekyll was trained as a painter; painting was a large part of her original aspiration in life. This training was influential on her later activities; she described garden designing as creating ‘garden pictures’. Examples of her watercolours are shown below; Iron Lane, Bramley was near the home, Bramley House, where she lived between the ages of 5 and 25. The originals are held by theĀ Surrey History Centre
