Lilies for English Gardens
The subtitle is A Guide for Amateurs. Compiled from information already published by Gertrude Jekyll in The Garden with the addition of some original chapters; this was the result of a series of queries sent out to thirty known lily growers by the editors of The Garden.
This was intended by her to be a ‘short, concise, illustrated handbook’ about the ‘most stately and beautiful of garden flowers’, of practical use to the amateur.
It proposes the best ways and places in which to plant and grow lilies, in the different types of garden; Gertrude Jekyll’s skill as a plantswoman is shown by her analysis of various types of lily.
There is advice against the risks of frost and disease.
